THE RUSSO-UKRAINE WAR THROUGH THE EYES OF AN INTELLIGENCE OFFICER

With a major war in Europe into its third month, Jack Thomas Tomarchio, the former Principal Deputy Under Secretary of Homeland Security for Intelligence at the US Department of Homeland Security gives us his unique analysis of the Russo-Ukraine War. Rather than simply discussing the war to date, Tomarchio takes us into the reasons; political, philosophical, historical, religious and logical; why the first major war in Europe in over 75 years is occurring. Using the time-tested tradecraft of the intelligence community, he looks at the war through the eyes of an intelligence officer and into the eyes of the adversary: Russia and Vladimir Putin, himself to explain how the real keys to understanding this conflict lie in an appreciation of 19th Century and 20th Century Russian political thought and Russia’s unique view of the world and its place in it. Only after understanding Russia’s and Putin’s motivation for this war, can we examine how this war might end and what peace will look like. Provocative, insightful and original, Tomarchio’s analysis will address some uncomfortable questions and examine some surprising realities of the future or Europe, NATO, Russia and world peace.
